The Beirut Sky's Silent Killer
While Lebanon is engulfed in a suffocating economic and political crisis, another crisis has infiltrated the population... and is robbing them of their oxygen!
When compared to last year, when the country was closed due to the effects of Corona, the rate of rise in air pollution over Beirut was 30 percent.
This percentage is linked to an increase in the number of private generators, as well as an increase in the number of hours that diesel generators are used to compensate for power shortages, as recently observed. The ratio of harmful gas emissions has risen to 300 percent, which is extremely alarming.
"We live under a cloud of pollution, and of malignant compounds that contribute to heart and lung issues," Najat Saliba, professor of analytical chemistry at AUB University, confirmed to "Spot Shot." "Air pollution is the world's leading cause of death, and it's known as the silent killer," she said.
She went on to say that "living under pollution that creates a grave hazard" is not permitted.
